Really Grammys?

I've been reviewing the Grammy Nominations for Album of the Year and am appalled at their apparent lack of taste. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga? Really? In retaliation I have created my own Album of the Year and submit these for your deciding vote.

The Suburbs - The Arcade Fire

Sigh no more - Mumford and Sons

Kaleidoscope Heart - Sara Barilles

High Violet - The National

Contra- Vampire Weekend

Honorable Mentions:

Florence and The Machine - Lungs
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach

Enjoy!!

Music Running Through My Head

After attempting to abandon this blog, I've been convinced to keep going. Thanks Stacey!

Couple of albums I've been enjoying this week.

Two Door Cinema Club "I Can Talk"

So I wateched The Tent City episode of Community of last week and after watching this video I had the strange urge to go home and pull out all of our blankets and build my own fort. They remind me a little of Bell X1 and Phoenix.

Duffy, "Endlessly"

When you listen to Duffy do you think she's in the wrong era? It's the same thing I think about Raphael Sadiq. '50- '60's?

Nico Stai "You Came Around"

Nico has actually put out a couple of albums. This particural song is from his 2009 release. I recommend you start the song and minimize the screen so you don't have Nico staring at you for the entire song.

I'm Back!

Sorry months end is always crazy at the office and sadly this blog is the last priority. Months end is almost over and I was feeling like something peppy this morning. I started with some music from my Desert Island playlist (The White Stripes) hit my Genius Playlist button and let Apple drive the rest of the way. Enjoy.

The White Stripes, "My Doorbell"

Spoon, "The Underdog"

And just for Gavin, I threw in a little of the new Sufjan Stevens. The new album is great. If you haven't purchase it yet, do!

Sufjan Stevens "Now that I'm Older"

Anyways, hope everyone is having a great Snowy Day!

Kings Of Leon is out

Kings of Leon's new Album is out and it acutally lives up to the hype. I'm really enjoying tracks 1: The End 4: Mary and 7: Back Down South. I'll add links for these tracks later.

Album of the week: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Beat the Devil's Tatoo" Great companion to the new KOL album.

St. George again, felt like I was just here.

Another road trip to St. George with Jack and Stacey. As always a road trip is an oppurtunity for some new music. The new Kings of Leon single, Gusters , and Pete Yorns new album made the trip fly by. I'm really excited for the new KOL album in two weeks. Gusters album is pretty similar to their earlier albums, if you liked the early albums you'll really like this one. Pete Yorn doesn't disappoint, I really like Precious Stone, the first cut from the new album.

Kings of Leon, "Radioactive". Album comes out soon. (Oct. 19)

Guster, "Do you love me?" I think more videos should include three grown men in long Underwear in public.

Pete Yorn, '"Precious Stone" Yes this is from Ellen, I couldn't find a better copy of hte song to post here. If you'd like a real copy let me know I can probably make that happen.

Dad recommended that I check out The Rescues. Here is "You're not listening"

This Mornings Playlist is brought to you by Coke Zero

So I start just about every morning with a coke zero from my local Maverick. The five minute drive from the gym to my office just isn't enought time to plot out my morning listening. Stopping at Maverick gives a few more minutes to figure it all out. I'm sensing a pattern this morning.. Paramore, Florence + The Machine, and Passion Pit. Female lead singers. Take a listen.

Florence + The Machine, Dog Days Are Over.
Very, very strange video, great song. Don't judge the band by this video, I'm pretty sure they just finished watching Braveheart.

Passion Pit, Little Secrets
Okay, so it's actually a guy singing. Had you not seen the video would you have known? Another album I keep in my car at all times, I fact one of two albums I have saved on my work computer.

Paramore, Brick By Boring Brick
This album was great for the morning run. It almost made me forget that I was watching The Tuxedo. Yup, that Tuxedo, Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love- Hewitt. Truly terrible.

Tahoe Recap

We just spent over 20 hours in the car last week on our annual trip to Tahoe for the Tingey Family Reunion. 20 hours is a long time, and it gave me amble time to sample quite a few new albums and relive a few of the classics.
Some of the Old School hits...

Biz Markie, Just a Friend Just for you Lenny.

John suggested that I listen to Whitey. I liked the tracks enough that I downloaded all of his albums when I got back to Sandy. Here's a sample...

Dad mentioned on one of the previous posts that this blog seem to be very male centered. In an effort to keep everyone happy. We did spend quite a bit of time listening to the new Sara Barilles and KT Tunstall albums, both are very good. I think Kaleidoscope Heart is a very good album. Tiger Suit is a good album, not as good as KT's freshman album.

Sara Barilles, King of Anything

KT Tunstall, Push That Knot Away

Lastly, I really like the new Jeremy Messersmith album, "The Reluctant Graveyard". Take a listen, let me know what you think.

Chuck is Back

Stacey and I are fans of the show Chuck on Monday nights. The show is okay. Although very predictable, the music they choose for the show is great. Last season they gave me Sam Issacs, this season they started out using a great track from The Black Keys.
Gavin suggested I check out the Black Keys over the summer. It's one of the CD's I keep in my car just in case I forget my Iphone.

Otis Taylor

I was reminded of an oldie but goodie this morning as I put the Iphone on Shuffle. Otis Taylor, you may recognize him from the closing scene of Shooter or from Public Enemies. This song seems to get used a lot, for good reason, if you want my opinion. I'm a sucker for a great guitar line. Aren't many better than this one. Otis can play.

Mumford and Sons

A friend of mine suggested that I add Mumford and Sons to my playlist for this morning. I have to admit, I'm impressed with 4 guys playing 7 instruments at one time. Check out the video, basic, clean and very catchy.

Week of Sept 13

With this being my first post I thought I would tell you what I've been listening to in the car for the last couple of days.

The Arcade Fire, The Suburbs. Fantastic Album, will probably make the top of my list for Album of the Year.

Brandon Flowers, Flamingo. Brandon apparently wrote all of these songs while on tour and when The Killers got home the rest of the band decided to take a break. The videos are terrible, but I really enjoy Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas and Crossfire.

I may have mentioned this group to a couple of you, but, I can't stop listening to The Gaslight Anthem, there are three albums to date, American Slang, The '59 Sound. and Sink or Swim

Recent recommendation from my Dad. The Drive by Truckers, The Big To Do. I just started listening to the album this morning and I've enjoyed the first couple of tracks.

Just a couple of suggestions to start the blog, what are you listening to?

Welcome to my music blog

I don't pretend to be an expert when it comes to music. I listen to a huge range of music and just wanted an outlet to share what I'm currently listening to. I encourage you to share what you are listening to as well. I'm always up for something new.
